The Volcanic Giant (4,562m)
Mount Meru is a spectacular, active stratovolcano situated in the heart of Arusha National Park. Standing at 4,562 meters (14,967 feet), it is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania and the fifth-highest in Africa. Trekking up Mount Meru is an incredible adventure, starting with an armed park ranger escort across a lower savanna filled with giraffes, zebras, and buffaloes. As you climb past the steep ash-cone ridges, you are rewarded with awe-inspiring, close-up views of the volcanic crater and sunrises rising over Mount Kilimanjaro.
