Trekking Itinerary
Day 1: Momella Gate to Saddle Hut (3,570m) - Mount Meru Fast Track
Hike Time: 5-6 hours | Distance: 12 km | Habitat: Forest & Moorland
Pickup from Arusha at 07:00 AM and transfer directly to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. Accompanied by an armed park ranger, cross the wildlife savanna glades on a walking safari, passing giraffes and buffaloes. Skip the lower hut by taking the direct steep ridge route up past Elephant Ridge straight to Saddle Hut (3,570m). Enjoy a warm dinner and prepare for a fast midnight summit push.
Day 2: Meru Summit Push (4,562m) down to Momella Gate to Arusha
Hike Time: 9-11 hours | Distance: 14 km | Habitat: Alpine Desert / Arctic Peak
Wake up at midnight. Scramble up the steep volcanic ash ridge past Rhino Point to reach **Socialist Peak (4,562m)** at sunrise. Admire the stunning views of Kilimanjaro across the cloud landscape. Descend back down to Saddle Hut for brunch, continue all the way to Momella Gate to collect your Meru certificates, and transfer back to an Arusha hotel for a quick rest and gear repack.
Day 3: Arusha Transfer to Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,700m) - Kilimanjaro Phase
Hike Time: 3-4 hours | Distance: 8 km | Habitat: Montane Rainforest
Drive from Arusha to Kilimanjaro's Marangu Gate. With your body already well-acclimated from Mount Meru, register and start a steady trek through the spectacular lower rainforest canopy. Spot rare mosses and blue monkeys along the well-maintained trails. Arrive at Mandara Hut (2,700m) for a hot dinner and overnight inside comfortable wooden A-frame cabins.
Day 4: Mandara Hut (2,700m) directly via Horombo to Kibo Base Camp (4,703m)
Hike Time: 7-9 hours | Distance: 16 km | Habitat: Moorland & Alpine Desert
A high-speed combined day. Thanks to your prior high-altitude conditioning, cross the vast moorland valleys past Horombo Hut without stopping to sleep. Push directly into the dry, windswept alpine desert saddle connecting the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. Reach Kibo Base Camp (4,703m) by late afternoon. Eat a high-energy dinner and rest before the midnight summit push.
Day 5: Kibo Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) down to Marangu Gate to Arusha
Hike Time: 12-14 hours | Distance: 22 km | Habitat: Arctic Peak / Rainforest
Wake up at midnight and begin the final frozen ascent up loose scree switchbacks past Gillman’s Point (5,685m) on the crater rim. Push your boundaries to reach the ultimate roof of Africa—**Uhuru Peak (5,895m)** at sunrise! Celebrate your double-peak victory, descend back to Kibo for brunch, and continue down to Marangu Gate. Receive your gold certificates and transfer to Arusha for celebration.
